Statistic
A random variable that is a function of the sample which contains no unknown parameters.

Population
A collection of all items.

Sample
Some subset of the population which is intended to be representative of the population.

Census
When every member of the population is sampled.

Sampling unit
Individual member of the population.

Sampling frame
A list of all the sampling units.

Sampling distribution
All possible samples are chosen from a population. The values of a statistic and the associated probabilities is a sampling distribution.

Critical region
The range of values which would lead you to reject the null hypothesis.

Hypothesis test
A procedure to examine a value of a population parameter proposed by the null hypothesis.

Significance level
The probability of incorrectly rejecting the null hypothesis.
