Democratic Centralism. Deviation faction (being thrown out) Lenin introduced first camps for political prisoners. Military discipline.

He wanted to change the workers state. He thought that everyone owns the means of production collectively .

All major industries kept under state control.e.g railways, utilities, oils, coal, metals. This meant a ban on private trade.

What changes towards the peasants were implemented?
End profiteering. Grain requisition and peasants expected to give surplus food to the state.

Peasants grew less food as a result. Requisitioning of the food meant peasants ended up growing food for themselves.

Lenin had ordered the public hanging of 100 priests andChurches closed. Trotsky reintroduced Military discipline and the death penalty.

what did Lenin's new economic policy contain?
Ban on private trade lifted (street markets and small shops allowed). Small industries run on their own. State still running larger industries. This was only temporary. 1924 peasant profits were taxed. Profit is incentive for peasants.

With the N.E.P what happened to party congress?
Ban on factions. Focus on the top of the party e.g 7 men in charge meant they had more control over the country.

Did the N.E.P work?
1921: 37.6m tons of harvest- 1923: 56.6m tons. All heavy industries increased. It worked to a certain extent but as wages went up so did unemployment.

Why did Stalin introduce the main turn?
Felt the N.E.P was too slow. More planning in growth meant better preparation for war. Gov can choose where to put motives.
