Community service given for driving offences, anti-social behaviour/non-payment of fines. Prisoners serving between 3 mnths-4 years released early if agree to Home Detention Order (restricted movements). Suspended Sentence-If trouble again-prison

Why do we kill people who kill people to show people killing is wrong? There are currently 7 countires in the world that will execute someone on the grounds of homosexuality.

Who was Sister Helen Prejan?
A Roman Catholic Nun. Became a leading American Suuporter for the abolition of the death penalty. Campaign began with 2 convicted murderes. Spoke out against capital punishment.

What is Amnesty International and What do they do?
Human Rights Pressure group. No particular religious background to remain impartial. Only 9 countries had abolished death penalty for all crimes in 1961, now AI involved, up to 97 countries. Argue death penalty denail of human rights.

Jesus emphasises in the New Testament that Christians should be more loving and forgiving (at least to those who show true remorse for their crimes)

Prophet Muhammad said:'Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without just cause, God will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgement' implying God will carry out any necessary punishment after death.

What does the example of the woman caught in Adultery (John 8) teach us about forgiveness?
It shows us that we are all sinners and therefore ought not to judge others. He is not saying that committing adultery and breaking the 10 commandments is acceptable. Instead, he is saying have all done wrong+not persistently point finger at others.

Story of man who killed 999 people before coming along Buddha who persuaded him to change his ways. This story teaches Buddhists that even the worst criminals can change+see error of ways. Can turn life around.
