what is religion?
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially gods

what is the function of religion?
It establishes the rules of a code of conduct, it gives a sense of hope, faith and an individual well being and provides natural peace. its a kind of reward system, e.g. if you are poor if you are a good person you will be rewarded in the afterlife.

It creates social co-hesion and creates a community, also it gives us stories e.g creationism, Lastly it promotes self welfare.

how can we collect evidence of religious beliefs from the past?
Sacrid books, remains of temples or churches, people who still have the same beliefs, burials, stories and Art.

how do we identify the presence of gods or deities in a religious place?
images or abstract images, animal symbols which relate to the god, indications of funerary rituals.

it was built to show the British that the Romans were now in charge and that there religion was important.

pediment, capitals, colonnade, cella, podium, iconography,altar, ambulatory and temenos.
