How long is the River Wye and Explain where it's source and river channel is?
Almost 210km in length (5th longest river in the UK) and source is high up the Phylimontils Hills and flows towards The River severn (south eastwards).

Name 4 typical landforms that can be found at the river and what 2 geomorphic processes are frequent?
Leves, Steep valley's, waterfalls and meanders. Weathering and mass movement is frequent.
2 of 13
What kind of rocks does the river mostly flow over?
Impermeable shales and gristones.
3 of 13
Explain what high rates of river flow that occur after rainfall may cause?
High flow rates may cause v-shaped valleys and waterfalls due to erosion.
4 of 13
Where can flat valleys and a gorge be found along the river?
Flat valley (due to sweeping meanders) in Hereford and a gorge-Wye valley between Chepstow and Goodrich
5 of 13
Where can leeves/floodplains and a waterfall be found?
Leeves and floodplains are common in the river's low and middle course. Waterfall in Cleddon Fells.
6 of 13
Whats the climate of the river wye like? Include rainfall, temperatures and flooding?
Avg rainfall is 750mm but in plynimon Hills rainfall can enxtend to 2500mm, Temperatures in winter are cold so freeze thaw weathering is high and mass movement (slumping and sliding is common), high rainfall causes floods frequently in winter

Give two use of the river wye to people?
Lower course of the river can be used for farming (middle too) but the middle is mostly used for tourists attractions such as the Wye Valley.

Human Management of the River... ( explain how Letton lake is useful and what's been done to reduce downstream pressure?)
Letton lake is a storage lake that has been constructed above the town to store surplus water and reduce floods. Parts of the floodplain have been allowed to flood to reduce downstream pressure.
9 of 13
Human management of the River...( what happend in Baltford and why)
In Baltford in Hereford, flood walls have been constructed to protect over 200 people's homes which costed about £5 million.
10 of 13
Explain how tree planting has affected the river's geomorphic processes?
Tree planting reduces mass movement due to stabilised steep valley's, therefore less sediment within the river, which means there is a higher chance of flooding happening but less deposition occurring downstream.
11 of 13
Explain how flood management affects geomorphic processes along the river wye?
Flooding is managed and therefore less sediment is in the river to construct floodplains / leeves therefore artifical leeves may have to be constructed.
12 of 13
Explain how flow rates are affected due to the rivers management?
River banks have been stabilised due to vegetation and planted tree's which can reduce flood height as more water can be stored.
