Area affected was in the region of the West coast of England next to the River Severn and three counties Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Shropshire.

Urban creep has occurred in the last 60 years in this region with towns like Shrewsbury and Gloucestershire expanding which leads to more impermeable surfaces and increased risk of flooding. The ocean temperature is rising.

In 2007 the North Atlantic was warmer than usual. This meant there was more wet and windy weather. There was 300% more rainfall in May, June and July in the West of England.

3600 homes were without power. 9000 businesses were affected as there were loses of 23%. Due to infrastructure and damaged roads, 14 people lost their lives in Gloucestershire. Farmers lost crops worth £50 million - had to start again from scratch
