?
Define emerging technologies.
Technology which is currently in development and are just starting to make an impact on businesses and general society. These come at a higher cost though.
1 of 20
What are some examples of emerging technologies?
Artificial intelligence, Biometrics, Robotics, VR
2 of 20
How can artificial intelligence help personal day to day lives of people?
Can free up time and make things safer, for example self driving cars is emerging technology and could make the roads safer. Other AI may allow us to spend time doing other things.
3 of 20
How can biometrics help personal day to day lives of people?
Log on more securely to devices and it also makes it more convenient rather than having to enter a password. e.g finger print, iris scanner, voice recognition etc.
4 of 20
How can VR help personal day to day lives of people?
New ways to experience entertainment to enhance the experience.
5 of 20
How can domestic robots help personal day to day lives of people?
Carry out household chores or home security, social robots can also provide companionships.
6 of 20
How can artificial intelligence help businesses and its staff?
Often used in business forecasts, helps in decision making.
7 of 20
How can biometrics help businesses and its staff?
Increase security for buildings and documents, provides security levels and clearances to staff.
8 of 20
How can robots help businesses and its staff?
Performing tasks which humans may not be able to do (due to risk or skill required), may also help businesses cut long term costs in terms of staff wages, more efficient.
9 of 20
How can VR help businesses and its staff?
Allowing businesses to test and trial products in order to identify improvements.
10 of 20
What are some implications of emerging technologies?
Puts pressure on new and existing technology, now require greater and more powerful security, users demand more in terms of availability (location) and how they can access, new ways to analyse data due to gathering 'big data'
11 of 20
What are the main factors when choosing an IT system (9)?
User experience and needs, Specs, Compatibility, Connectivity, Cost, Efficiency, Productivity, Implementation, Security
12 of 20
Why are user experience+needs an important factor?
Whether the use is able to use the system easily without confusion on functions. What are users using the system for - gaming, photo editing, produce word docs - needs will vary depending on intentions
13 of 20
Why is specifications an important factor?
Does the system have good 'specs' i.e good RAM, memory, high speed CPU, type of core etc. Can it perform to certain needs?
14 of 20
Why is compatibility an important factor?
Will the system work with other devices you/the business owns?
15 of 20
Why is connectivity an important factor?
Can the system use the required connectivity tech and methods e.g using internet connections or syncing devices?Ethernet or wireless?
16 of 20
Why is cost an important factor?
Availability of systems depend on budget, if a user/business has a large budget it can afford the highest performing whereas a low budget may only be able to afford the basics.
17 of 20
Why is efficiency/productivity an important factor?
Whether or not users/staff can complete tasks quickly based on the performance of the system, poor performance - low efficiency. Can the system start up fast, load files quickly, not crash. Does the user need to be highly productive?
18 of 20
Why is implementation an important factor?
Whether it takes long to implement the system or whether there will be down time? Whether or not the system will need testing and how easy it is to transfer data, are staff familiar with the system?
19 of 20
Why is security an important factor?
Whether or not the system will contain confidential info/data, Does it need added security such as biometric or physical locks. Is the device suitable - is it portable - more risk to loss/theft?
