Geosphere
The rock of the different layers of the earth eg Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, Core

Magma/Lava
Hot molten rock (of any kind). When it is below the Earth's surface it is called magma when it's above is Lava

Convection Current
Where a material is heated, rises, cools and sinks in a contious cycle.

Plume
The part of the convection current which rises due to being hotter, and therefore less dense, than the surrounding material.

The region surrounding the Earth where the magnetic field dominates space.

Subduction
The sidesways and downwards movement of the edge of a techtonic plate, under another techtonic plate,into the mantel.

A hard, colourless quartz material, which thickens molten rock (eg magma & lava)

Viscosity
How thick or stickey something is.

VEI
Volcanic Explosive Index. On a scale to (0-8) 0- less powerfull 8 more powerful and more dangerous.

Lahar
A destructive mudflow which is made of ash and water (form the weather) and travels down the sides of the volcano.

Pyroclastic Flows
A dense, destructive mass of very hot ash which can be up to 200-700*C) lava fragments and gas flow down the side of the volcano.
