Aerobic Respiration
This supplies the oxygen needed. It can be maintained for long periods of time through low intensity

Glucose + Oxygen = Energy + Water

Anaerobic Respiration
Exercising at high intensity the cardiovascular system can not supply enough oxygen needed. Without it lactic acid is produced although it is a mild poison, it causes build up and causes the muscle pain and cramps

Anaerobic Equation
Glucose + Oxygen = Lactic Acid

Oxygen debt
After anaerobic activity, Oxygen is needed to neutralise the lactic. Rapid and deep breathing id needed for short periods of time after high intensity excercise in order to repay the dept. This also help to remove carbon dioxide in the blood.
