What is sustainable development?
A way of improving people's quality of life without wasting resources or harming the environment.

What is Reducing consumption?
This means using fewer resources an dbeing less wasteful. E.g by switching of lights when not in ue, turning down the central heating to save electricity.

What is Increasing efficiency?
This means using resources in the best possible way. E.g improving hea insulation in buildings, designing fuel-efficient planes, cars and busses etc.

What is recycling?
Recycling involves re-using materials instead of dumping them. Waste products such as paper, glass metal cans, plastics and old clothes can all be processed and used again.

Give examples of Reducing consumption in the classroom.
Using lss water, books/equipment handled with care, use paper sparingly, door closed etc.

Give examples of Increasing efficiency in the classroom.
Insulation in the ceiling, double-glazed windows, wall cavities filled with foam, low-energy lights with timers etc.
