Ferous metals
ferrous metals are those which contain iron, whilst non ferrous metals don't have any iron content. This could include Mild steal, Stainless steel and cast iron
1 of 19
Non-ferrous metals
Non-ferrous metals are metals that do not contain iron. for example Aluminum, bronze, lead, brass, copper and tin
2 of 19
Aluminum
it has a high strength weight and conducts heat and electricity. It can be polished well and dose not rot, it can be difficult to join together.
3 of 19
Brass
its expensive can resist corrosion and can polish well.
4 of 19
Copper
A good conductor of heat and electricity, it can be easily joned and polished well. It can also be expencive.
5 of 19
Tin
its very weak and soft has a high resistance against corrosion it is used for plating steel.
6 of 19
bronze
its strong tough and is a resisants to corrosion
7 of 19
hard woods
hard woods are woods such as ash, Mahogany ect
8 of 19
Ash
open- grained ,tough and flexible it is usally used for furniture.
9 of 19
Sapele
Nice grain and is durable it is usally use for floors and guitars also furniture.
10 of 19
Mahogany
A grain that darkens with age, its very strong durable and works well.
11 of 19
Beech
closed grain its hard strong and works well.its usally used for toys chopping boards and drums.
12 of 19
Oak
open grained, hard , very strong, tough, durable, heavy and works well. used for Panelling, furniture and flooring.
13 of 19
Teack
Hard, strong, durable, works well it can be used for building boats or outdoor furniture and things like window frames.
14 of 19
soft woods
soft woods are woods such as Spruce, Scots pine ect
15 of 19
Spruce
its strong with small hard knots to help it stop from splitting.
16 of 19
Scots Pine
its straight grained but knotty, its fairly strong, it works well and its cheap
17 of 19
