Define 'Psychology'.
The scientific study of the human brain, mental life and behaviour.

What are qualities of good research?
Reliability, validity, public, cumulative and parsimony.

Define 'Cumulative'.
Research that builds upon existing knowledge/theory.

Define 'Parsimony'.
Theories that provide simplest, most economical and efficient explanation of the facts.

What is an independent variable?
Variable that is experimentally manipulated.

What is a dependent variable?
Variable that is measured.

Factors that might influence DV/behaviour being studied.

The task is too easy, all scores are very high disguising any differences.

Degree to which assumptions made by statistical test are/are not met by the data.

Degree to which a study tests what it claims.

Extent to which results can be generalised beyond the context of the study.

Ecological, population and historical.

Define 'History Effects.'
An event (other than the manipulation) occurs between pre- and post-test and affects the study outcome.

Define 'Maturation Effects.'
Participants naturally change between pre- and post-test.

Define 'Regression to the Mean.'
Perform extremely poorly at pre-test, likely to improve at post-test independently from treatment.

Perform better at post-test because participants had practice.
