johnson and Scott used a lab experiment to show that when someone is carrying a weapon, they will focus on the weapon rather than their face. The two groups were exposed to different scenarios and asked to identify the criminal.

The other group heard breaking glass and falling chairs. Person comes out with knife and blood.

Pickel (lol) says people are simply not expecting a knife in the experiment so they pick up on it for that reason. He did a similar study with hairdressers and used guns, scissors, chicken. He found the chicken reduced recall.
