What did the civillian cromwellians want?
a settlement such as the humble petition- however the decline of kingship upset men like Broghill- Henry Cromwell and Thurloe wanted a settlement through a traditional parliament

What did the commonwealthsmen want?
opposed the protectorate- too much power to one person, wanted to limit the influence of the army and create a one chamber parliament

What did the army grandees want?
protectorate to continue- Lambert re-entered parliament as an MP in 1659 remained quite influential- had links with Vane

What did Monck want?
in command of the Scottish NMA- had them at his disposal, made links with Charles Stuart because he was concerned at the breakdown of order, wanted stability

What did the soldiers and junior officers want?
their concerns to be heard, presented by Lilburne (leader) to RC- concerns included arrears and the interests of the army grandees surrounding control of the army

Why were the Quakers significant?
60,000 members- provoked reaction from conservatives e.g. Monck's purge of scottish army- this made conservatives want stability and therefore monarchy back

RC's protectorate seemed viable- had no influence
