Biological systems-Reproductive Hormones

?
What does FSH do in females and where is it produced/released?
Follicle Stimulating Hormone: Stimulates the growth of follicles in the ovary; Stimulates the production of Oestrogen. The Pituitary Gland
1 of 12
What does FSH do in males and where is it produced/released?
Follicle stimulating hormone: Stimulates spermatogenesis in the testes. The Pituitary Gland
2 of 12
What does LH do in females and where is it produced/released?
Lutenising Hormone: Stimulates ovulation and Stimulates the production of Progesterone. The Pituitary Gland.
3 of 12
What does LH do in males and where is it produced/released?
Lutenising Hormone: Stimulates the production of Testosterone in the testes. The Pituitary Gland.
4 of 12
What does Testosterone do? Where is it produced/released?
It is produced in the Testes. It stimulates the development on the male reproductive tract; Stimulates the secondary sexual characteristics.
5 of 12
What does Oestrogen do? Where is it produced/released?
It is produced in the Ovaries. It stimulates the development of the female reproductive system; regulates the female reproductive cycle; stimulates the development of female secondary sexual characteristics.
6 of 12
What are two male S-S-C and two female S-S-C?
Male: Hair growth and Bone mass / Female: Enlarged breasts and Widened hips
7 of 12
What does Progesterone do? Where is it produced/released?
It is produced by the ovaries. It maintains the Endometrium, preparing for implantation of a fertilised Ova.
8 of 12
What does Oxytocin do? where is it produced/released?
Released from the Pituitary Gland. It is important in Parturition and Lactation
9 of 12
What does Oxytocin do during Parturition?
The stretching of the Cervix and Uterus stimulates the secretion of Oxytocin. The oxytocin stimulates contraction of the Uterine wall. This is a positive feedback loop.
10 of 12
Give one example of a hormone that works in a negative feedback loop and one that works in a positive feedback loop
-ve feedback loop: Oestrogen-inhibits production of FSH / +ve feedback loop: Oxytocin
11 of 12
What does Oxytocin do during lactation?
The suckling of the young stimulate the secretion of Oxytocin. The Oxytocin stimulates milk ejection from the mammary glands.
