What are the advantages of representative democracy?
More practical, elected representatives may have greater expertise and experience and they can voice the view of minorities.

What are the disadvantages of representative democracy?
May not represent the views of all the citizens, can create low public interest, misplaced trust and makes it difficult for small parities to win.

What part of parliament is elected in the UK General Election?
General Election only votes for representatives in the House of Commons (650 MP's) whereas House of Lords are appointed, therefore not elected in the General Election (790 peers).

What happens if a single party wins a majority of seats in the Commons?
If one party wins a majority of (326 seats or above) then it becomes the new government. A PM is then appointed and they select a team of MP's and Lords from their party to the government.

What is a parliamentary democracy?
Parliamentary Democracy (UK)-Public elects individuals to represent them, the govt is draw from Parliament, executive branch depends on&is accountable for Parliament.

What are the different theories for how MP's should represent their constituents?
Trustee (Burkean) Representation- Believes that the MP's should consider constituent views but exercise their own judgement (vote for the N Interest). Party/Mandate Representation- Believes that MP's should vote in line with parties manifesto.

Aside from voting, how else can we participate in our representative democracy?
Through volunteering, dating and fundraising. Can be electoral or non electoral.
