Equal rights for women, women allowe to own property seperately from their husbands, women allowed to stand as councillors, women given equal voting rights, equal pay for women, illegal to discriminate on the grounds of gender.

War, other countries, sucessful women, the Suffragettes, indusrial development and the Labour government.

Traditional attitude: men should be the head of the family and women shouldn't speak in church, because Adam was created first and Jesus only had male disciples.

The modern attitude: men and women should have equal roles in life because Jesus treated women as equals, Jesus chose men as apostles because of the culture at the time, Adam and Eve were created in the eyes of God.

Discrimintaion and racism can be devastating because it makes people feel alienated, turn to crime, turn to extremist religions, and lead to an increase of groups who stir up hatred like the BNP.

Less chance of war because people know and understand each other, more progress in society as new ideas are introduced, life is more interesting.

Government acrion to promote CC in the UK
Financially supporting groups who work for CC, appointing cabinet ministers from ethnic minorities, passing the race relations act, etc.

Community cohesion is important because...
Without it there would be no shared vision for society, lack of CC can lead to riots, violence becomes a way of life in countries without CC.
