The person was not in control of what happened to them - sudden and happens from God

May appear to last a long period of time but it may actually have been short - long lasting and involve a change view on the universe. Not permanent

The experience of God goes beyond the human power of description. The person feels they are unable to describe the experience or not to do it justice

The person receives knowledge of the divine which is not otherwise available. The experience is therefore a direct revelation from God
