What are some examples of abnormalities caused by abnormal development?
Hole in the heart, cleft palate, cleft lip, damage caused by the rubella virus, damage caused by smoking, drug taking or drinking alcohol during pregnancy.

Why may brain damage cause abnormalities?
Brain damage can happen during the development in the uterus or during birth. This may be caused by lack of oxygen (anoxia) or a number of other reasons. The disability that results depends on the part of the brain that is damaged.

What are some abnormalities caused by brain damage?
If the part controlling movement is damaged it can cause cerebral palsy but if the part controlling intelligence is damaged it results in learning difficulties.

What is a physical disability?
A disability which affects the normal growth and development of the body.

What are some examples of physical disabilities?
Motor Neurone Disease, cystic fibrosis, spina bifida, cerebal palsy, downs syndrome, progeria, muscular dystrophy

What is a learning difficulty?
Children with learning difficulties are those whose brain fails to develop normally or is damaged by accident or infection.

ADHD, autism, downs syndrome, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech impairment

What is a sensory disability and what are some examples?
It affects the sense organs particularly the eyes and ears. It may be visual impairment, hearing impairment, blindness and deafness.

Avoid smoking, drug abuse and alcohol during pregnancy.
