Pressure Group
A collection of people who wish to influence decision makers on issues they feel are important.

Are often consulted by government and influence their decision

Outsider Groups
Have less direct contact with the government, more about making statements.

Casual/promotional Groups
pressure groups that promote specific issues (e.g nuclear disarmament.)

Interest Groups
promote the interest of their workers (fire brigades union)

Fundraising
Charging membership fees + selling merchindise

Mebership
Receive magazines, leaflets and information to help the suppourt the group (usually charged a fee)

Campaigning
How a pressure group gets its message across and tries to influence government decisions.

Protest marches
Large groups of people taking to the streets to show their views.

Rallies
Big meetings with interesting influential speakers who address the crowd.

Public meetings
Organised to inform local people on the issues concerning the pressure groups.

Boycotts
When people avoid using or buying from certain companies to get a point across

Strikes
when members of a trade union stop working to put pressure on employers to meet their demands.

leafleting
Distributing leaflets to people who may be new to the issues.

Street Stalls
Attract attention to the campaign or cause

Petitions
A good way of showing how many people are in support of the campaign

E-Campaigning
A fast growing way of spreading messages and building campaigns
