How may you distinguish between an ALDEHYDE and a KETONE using TOLLEN'S REAGENT?
Tollen's reagent is an oxidising agent. Aldehydes are reducing agents - ketones are not. Tollen's reagent will react with aldehydes on boiling. A METALLIC SILVER will form on the surface of the test tube in the presence of an aldehyde.
