What does equality mean?
Being treated equally, for example: in status, rights, and opportunities

What is a community?
People living in a certain place, or as a group of people with the same religious or cultural characteristics.

What does prejudice mean?
Judging someone or something with no good reason, or without full knowledge of a situation.

What does discrimination mean?
Unjust treatment often resulting from prejudice. Actions: individuals may be violent and abusive. Society: passing a law against certain people.

What is racism?
It is a form of being prejudice against someone because of their different culture or religious background, and maybe becasue of the colour of their skin.

What is racial descrimination?
It is the result of ignorance, misunderstanding or segregation.

What is sex descrimination?
In 1975 the sex descrimination act was passed by parliament, this made it illegal to descriminate people against the account of their gender (sexism). Especially in the fields of employment and education.

What do Christians think about equality?
They believe that everyone was created equally by God and so they try to avoid descrimination and promote equality, for example they use Jesus' teachings of mixing with a variety of people himself.

What is the parable of the good Samaritan?
A man is beaten up and left half-dead by robbers. First a proest and then a Levite (the Levites were a Jewish tribe) walking down the road see him, but carry on walking. But a Samaritan (considered an enemy by the Jews) helps him.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer - A German christian who spoke out against the Nazi's. Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Bishop Trevor Huddleston acted against apartheid in South Africa and Dr Martin Luther King Jr

Who was Dr Martin Luther King Jr?
He was a Baptist minister who dedicated his life to trying to change the way black people were treated in the USA. He organised peaceful marches, rallies and boycotts, in 1965 blacks were given equal voting rights. Killed in 1968 aged 39 years old
