What is age of consent?
The age someone can legally have sex. They are considered mature enough to give their consent to a sexual partner.

It is important to protect young people from possible abuse. Lowering the age might encourage young people to have sex when they are not ready.

The age of consent makes it harder to give advice, contraception and support about sex to people less than 16 years of age.

It allows couples to plan when they have children, it prevents in wanted pregnancies and it reduces the risk and spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

What do Catholics believe about contraception?
Catholics believe that artificial contraception is wrong but not natural. Artificial contraception is wrong because all sexual acts should be able to result in children. they believe the purpose of sex is to have children.

They believe that contraception can be allowed and think it is down to the couple to decide how many children they have.

Jews believe that contraception that does not physically stop the sperm from reaching the egg is ok. They also allow contraception to prevent pregnancies that would harm the mothers health.

A Muslim marriage must take place publicly and at the ceremony there are prayers and vows.
