What do Christians belive about Judgement Day?
Christians believe we have Free Will and are responsible for our actions; there will be a day when all will have to give an account of their lives before God himself. They will either be welcomed into Heaven or turned away into Hell.

What do Christians believe about Heaven?
It is a real place, where those who have chosen to live for God in this life will spend eternity in the presence of God and all that is truly good.

A place to be avoided at all costs; eternity cut off from the presence of God and all good.

What form do Christians believe the afterlife will take?
Christians believe in Resurrection. Their bodies will be raised from the dead on Judgement Day, renewed bodies and souls reunited to live for eternity with God.

What do Muslims believe about the afterlife?
Death comes at the time set by Allah. The soul is believed to leave the body straight after death. It is taken by the Angel of Death to await the Day of Judgement. During life, angels kept a record of the dead person’s deeds, which will be used.

Where do Muslims believe the good people and the bad people will go?
The righteous will go to Paradise, a beautiful garden. The unrighteous will go to Hell.

What happens in a Christian Funeral - at the chapel/church?
The coffin is placed at the front of the church. The Priest reads from the Bible eg from John’s Gospel, “I, (Jesus) am the Resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” Prayers are said, hymns and a eulogy.

What happens at a Christian Funeral - at the grave or crematorium?
The committal is where the coffin is lowered into the grave (or covered by the curtain in the crematorium). The chief mourner throws the first handful of earth onto the coffin.

In a Christian Funeral what words does the Priest read?
the priest reads the words which commit the body to the ground (“dust to dust”) but commit the person’s soul (“our brother/sister”) to the care of the merciful God “in sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life”.

What happens at a Muslim Funeral?
The dying person should lie facing Makkah. The call to prayer should be the last words he hears. The body is washed ready for burial. The imam leads prayer in the mosque, then at the graveside . The funeral is within 24 hours of death.

What sex is only allowed to attend? - Other key factors (2)
Only men attend. The body is placed in the grave, in direct contact with the earth. All is simple and equal in death. No expensive memorial will be set up.

How important is a Funeral?
Chance to pay last respects Say a final farewell Celebrate a person’s life Gives hope – handing them to God’s safekeeping. Chance to mourn, express grief publicially Draws a line, allows people to mourn.

How important is the belief of life after death?
Less fear of death. Makes a sense of life. Gives life meaning and purpose. Rewards a good life. Readdresses the inequalities of life. Gives a reason to live well. Encourages people to serve and make sacrifices in life, Hope of seeing people again.
