Why is music used in worship?
It unites them, by singing people feel inspired and closer to God. It is an emotional and physical act.

What are the psalms?
Pieces of poetry that were originally written down to be (are sometimes sung)sung during Jewish prayer-from the OT. The Divine Office is a collection recited by priests, monks and nuns at least 4 times per day.

What is the Gloria?
The Gloria is based on the hymn of the angles. Gloria is used to 'praise God'. The musical versions use a more complex range of voices to convey the feeling of thankfulness to God for all his love. It is not used in sorrowful times e.g. Advent, Lent.

What is Alleluia?

Immediately after the consecration, people acclaim the Mystery of Faith. Everyone proclaims that they accept that the consecration has made present the whole saving event of Christ's life, death and resurrection. God has shown the depth of his love.

Explain the Triune God (the difference between the Triune God and the Trinity)
Triune God: within the one God there is a three-ness. The Trinity focuses on the distinctive qualities of each of the three Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God exists as three distinct persons.

Part 1: Why are the psalms important?
They acknowledge that everything that people have comes from God, without God they are nothing. They are the inspiration for many hymns and singing is a form of worship in church therefore being a significant part of worship.

By singing these, people know that God is guiding and protecting them.

What is meant by plainchant?
Plainchant is an ancient form of song, usually accompanied, which uses a limited range of notes.

Explain the Baptism
Jesus baptised his disciples in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit (he told his apostles to baptise people too). Baptism is one of the seven sacraments. It symbolises beginning a new stage of life. People become a member of the Church.

Why do people get baptised?
It enhances their faith, people become closer to God, enter as a member of the Church and it is one of the seven sacraments. People take a leap in their faith.

What happens in baptism?
Water is poured over the head-invoking the Trinity. White is worn to represent purity and new life. Candle shows the light.

The Trinity in the Nicene Creed
A creed is a statement of faith. The Nicene Creed teaches about each person in the Trinity. "I believe in one God...the Only Begotten Son of God...the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,".

The Trinity in the Genesis
The Genesis reveals how God is the creator but how the Trinity is shared in the act of creation. "In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth" "God said, Let there be light'".

Mission
'Sending out' (in His name) people with a job or function to perform. Often charity organisations have missions. Quote;"those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.". People should show love in these actions.

Evangelism
Preaching the good news(or Gospel by words) about Jesus to other people. This is an influence on other people through good things through action and speaking. "baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

What is the difference between mission and evangelism?
Mission is more active and using actions whereas evangelism is using words.

St. Augustine
He believed; love cannot exist on its own, focuses on the relationship within the Trinity, love of God is not just contained within God, it pours outwards, "God is love" and love is in part (Trinity): uniting love, lover and the receiver of love.

She believed; that God could be understood by actions, that people focused on the inner life and nature of God too much, outward effects the trinity and our knowledge is based on what God has revealed to us-self revelation.

What is the Magisterium?
It is the teaching authority of the Roman Catholic Church, especially as exercised by bishops or the Pope. The decisions of the Magisterium should be accepted by Catholics. The Holy Sprit guides the whole Church in the truth (expressed in teachings).

Spontaneous Prayers
Is done suddenly without any set format, involves choosing your own words and as Christian believe it becomes from the heart and reflects how the person is feeling in that moment and is more sincere as it reflects the person's relationship with God.

Traditional Prayer
Is passed down generations, people don't need to think as the words are set therefore they can focus on God(like meditation), worship and be at ease and open to the presence of God and when people are upset they can use familiar words.
