What does reaction rate depend on?
collision frequency
1 of 9
What effect does changing the temperature have on the rate of reaction?
At high temps, the particles move fast. This means that there is a higher frequency of successful collisions, meaning the rate of reaction will increase.
2 of 9
Increasing temperature causes an increase in kinetic energy of the particles.... what effect does this have? Explain using collision theory.
The faster the particles move, the greater chance of them colliding- more frequent collisions leads to a faster reaction. When they collide at an increased temp. they have more energy- more energetic collisions lead to more successful collisions.
3 of 9
In a reaction where one or both of the reactants are in low concentrations, what effect will this have?
The particles will be spread out meaning the particles will collide with each other less often, so there will be fewer successful collisions.
4 of 9
What effect does increasing concentration have on a reaction?
Increasing concentration, increases the number of particles in the same space. The more crowded the particles are, the greater chance of them colliding, which increases the no. of collisions per second.
5 of 9
Complete the sentence: As the pressure on rat gas increases....
particles are squeezed closer together, and the number of successful collisions per second increases and so the rate of reaction increases.
6 of 9
What is the concentration or molarity of solutions measured in?
mol/dm3
7 of 9
What do successful collisions depend on?
energy transfer
8 of 9
what does extrapolate and interpolate mean?
Extrapolation: making an estimate beyond the range of results. Interpolation: making an estimate between results in a range
