describe the alap
sitar player introduces the notes of the chosen raga, improvising freely - theres no beat or pulse to the melody at this point - it just flows along. The accompaniment at this point is the tambura drone

the music speeds up a bit - its still the tambura player and sitar player but the music gets more rhythmic and the melody improvised by the sitar player takes on a steady beat

this section is alot faster than the alap and jhor and feels alot more exciting than the bits that came before, the players improvise around the melody

in the gat, the raga really takes off - the tabla player come is - the groups plays a pre-composed piece. Its called a gat if its for instruments only, and a bandish if there's a song - the players also add improvisations to the gat or bandish + q+a
