Radiation
The emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or subatomic particles which cause ionisation
1 of 6
Half life
The time it takes for the substance to decay by half / the time taken for the number of decays to fall by half
2 of 6
Short half life
The activity falls quickly as the nuclei are very unstable and rapidly decay
3 of 6
Long half life
The activity falls slower because most of the nuclei dont decay for a long time
4 of 6
Nuclear fission
A type of nuclear reaction that is used to release energy from large and unstable atoms by splitting them into smaller atoms
5 of 6
Nuclear fusion
The process in which two small nuclei combine to form a larger one, releasing energy
