using effective communication, by providing up-to-date information, by challenging discriminatory behaviour, by providing information about complaints procedures, by providing advocacy

What makes effective communication?
using vocabulary that can be understood, not being patronising, adapting communication to meet the needs of the individual or situation, listening to individuals' needs

on time services open, type of care provided, location, alternatives available

challenge at the time, afterwards through procedures, long-term proactive campaigning
