What are 7 practical limitations of questionnaires?
Data is limited and superficial. Offer incentives to attract respondents. Can't be sure the intended completed the questionnaire. Low response rates. Inflexible. Not suitable for investigating unfamiliar topics. Only snapshots.
2 of 5
Why do positivists like questionnaires?
They enable us to test hypothesis and establish correlations. They can be repeated so are reliable and also allow comparisons. They are representative because they're large scale and use representative samples. They are detached and so objective.
3 of 5
Why don't interpretivists like questionnaires?
Fails to produce a valid picture of an actor's meanings. Language differences. Not valid because of lying, forgetting or don't understand. Also respondents may give 'respectable' answers. They can impose the researcher's meanings.

What are the 2 types of questions and how do interpretivists criticise them?
Close-ended questions - respondents fit their view to the answers on offer. Open-ended questions - give what ever answer they wish, but when quantifying data, the researcher will put together answers they believe are similar and so data is altered.
