Random Sampling

Pre-select groups in the population that are relevant then select each group to proportionally represent the group.

The sample remains up to the discretion of the researcher, this sample is stratified.

Cluster Sampling
Naturally occurring groups/clusters within a population. An example is when studying religion we may find clusters of Muslims/Christians.

Self-Selecting samples
Participants that have volunteered.

Opportunity/Convenience samples.
People asked because they just happen to be there at the time.

Snowball samples
Participants asks other participants for the researcher. This is often used in qualitative studies requiring in-depth information that may be difficult to come by.
