Independent Variable
The variable that the researcher alters or manipulates to look for an effect on another variable. This variable produces the two conditions of the study.

The variable that the researcher measures to see if the IV has affected it.

Extraneous Variable
A variable that is not the IV but might effect the DV if it is not controlled.

Operationalisation
operationalization is a process of defining the measurement of a phenomenon that is not directly measurable

Aim
a purpose or intention; a desired outcome

Hypothesis
A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
