Systematic Desensitisation
A behavioural therapy used to treat phobias, an anxiety hierarchy is identified and worked through using relaxation to eliminate the fear of the phobic stimulus

Flooding
A behavioural therapy in which a phobic patient is exposed to an extreme form of their phobic stimulus e.g. if they are scared of drowning they will be exposed to the stimulus immediately until they relearn their fear response.

Becks Negative Triad
Three types of negative thinking that contribute towards an individual becoming depressed. These are negative views of the world, the future and the self. These lead the person to interpret their experiences in a negative way causing depression.

Ellis ABC Model
Depression occurs when an activating event (A) triggers an irrational belief (B) which in turn produces a consequence (C) i.e. an emotional response like depression is the process to irrational beliefs.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A method for treating mental disorders based on cognitive and behavioural techniques that help challenge the negative thoughts of depression etc.
