What is the definition of conformity?
Conformity occurs when we change our behaviors or beliefs as a result of real or imagined group pressure.

What is normative social influence?
Normative social influence occurs when we publicly go along with the group in order to fit in and be accepted, but privately stick to our own views e.g laughing at a racist joke even though we may think it is wrong.

What is informational social influence?
Informational social influence occurs when we do not know what the correct way to behave is so we look how the majority of the group are behaving and conform to them.

What is compliance?
Compliance is publicly conforming to the behavior or views of others, but privately maintaining our own views.

What is internalisation?
Internalisation is a conversion or true change of private views to match those of the group e.g a religious conversion.

When are people most likely to conform because of Normative Social Influence?
-When the group is very important to them and when they spend a lot of time with the group

When are people most likely to conform because of informational social influence?
When the situation is ambiguous. In an emergency, we may be panicky and not have time to think calmly about the best course of action. If others are present who seem to have expert knowledge.
