Locus of control, lack of self esteem, gender, age, personality type, up brining and temperament

Acute: attacked by something, noises around house and doing an emergency stop Chronic: job, someone being ill and school

Define the immune system...
It is designed to defend the body against antigens

Le- white blood cells, defence mechanism Ly- type of leucocytes involved in the immune response

What are T cells and B cells?
T cells are produced in the bone marrow and migrate to the thymus, they eliminate and attacks infected cells B cells detects and eliminates specific antigens in the body, they are natural killer cells and stay in the bone marrow

What are antigens?
They are viruses, they are able to reproduce and start causing problems

What are some ways your body works to prevent antigens making you ill?
Skin, hair, nose, eyelashes and mucus

What does the term cardiovascular disorder mean?
Disorder of the heart or circulatory system

Give three examples of cardiovascular disorders...
Hypertension- high blood pressure, Coronary heart disease- narrowing of coronary arteries Stroke- caused by disruption of blood supply to the brain

How can stress cause these disorders?
Stress leads to increased glucose levels, leading to clumps blocking vessels

What other things bar stress can effect cardiovascular disorders?
Smoking, diet, exersize, alcohol and anger

What type of research is commonly used to assess stress/cardiovascular disorders? What is a problem with this?
A self report technique is used (questionnaires) There's a general tendency towards neg perceptions - problems with reliability

LT- hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis ST- sympathomedullary pathway
