What is short term memory?
STM is your memory for immediate events. Usually measured in seconds and minutes. Short duration. They disappear unless rehearsed. Has a limited capacity. Coded acoustically. Sometimes referred to as working memory.

What is long term memory?
LTM is your memory for events which have happened in the past. This can last anywhere between 2 minutes and 100 years. Unlimited duration and capacity. Coded semantically.

What is coding?
Also known as encoding. This is the way information is changed so that it can be stored in the memory. Information enters the brain via senses. Stored in various ways; visual, acoustic and semantic.

Measure of how much information can be held in the memory. Represented in bits of info, such as number of digits.

A measure of how long a memory lasts before it is no longer available.
