Mental processes of which we are not aware.

Moving all the bad experiences to the pre-conscious/un-conscious

Birth to 18 months, Mouth is focus of pleasure, if continues till adulthood. they will be optimistic, admiring of others and gullible.

1-2 year olds, brings a focus of pleasure on the **** with expulsion and retention of faeces.

If parents are too lenient the adult will have an anal expulsive character

3-5 years. Focus of pleasure in the genital region.

Repression of desires.
