What are proteins made up of?
Long chains of amino acids joined together.
1 of 8
What are 4 types of proteins?
1) Structural 2) Hormones 3) Carrier 4) Enzymes.
2 of 8
Explain the functions of Structural proteins , give example?
- Used to build cells/ tissues -EG- Collagen
3 of 8
Explain the function of hormones, give example?
-Carry messages to control a reaction. - EG- Insulin controls blood sugar levels
4 of 8
Explain the function of carrier proteins, give example?
-Carries oxygen. - Haemoglobin
5 of 8
why do different proteins have different functions?
-Each protein has a different number and order of amino acids - So each type of protein molecule has diferent shape and a different functions.
6 of 8
Why are enzymes called biological catalysts?
It speeds up reaction in the body.
7 of 8
Give example of enzymes working as a biological catalyst?
They catalyse : chemical reactions in respiration, photosynthesis, and protein synthesis of living cells
