What functions to preoteins have in the body
hormones, antibodies, structural components, enzymes and energy
1 of 6
hormones
protein helps to make some hormones such as secretin which assists digestion by stimulating the pancreas and intestine to make digestive juices . Insulin is also a protein which controls blood sugar levels
2 of 6
antibodies
proteins can form antobodies which prevent disease. these protein destroy antogens by surrounding them until they can be destroyed by the white blood cells.
3 of 6
enzymes as catalysts
An enzyme consists of proteins folded into unique shapes that allow substrates to fit into them. Protein as a catalysts increases reactiosn such as respiration
4 of 6
energy
if you take in more protein than you need it will be used for energy but if you already have enough energy it will be stored as fat.
5 of 6
how are nitrate ions build into proteins
they are built into amino acids which then create plant proteins
