Describe and label a transverse and longitudinal wave.
Transverse waves have peaks and troughs of various heights whereas longitudinal waves are like a spring that's been pushed and have compressions and rarefractions.
1 of 6
Write the definition of each type of wave in terms of its direction of travel and transmission of energy.
Transverse- 90* to the direction of wave travel (energy from left to right)
Longitudinal- Waves are parallel to the direction of travel (energy is from left to right but the particles do not travel along the wave)
2 of 6
State a use for each type of wave.
Transverse- Radio Waves
Longitudinal- Sound Waves
3 of 6
Define frequency.
The amount of waves passing a certain point per second.
4 of 6
Write the equation that link frequency and time period.
Frequency= 1 ÷ Time
5 of 6
Write the equation that links wave speed, frequency and wavelength.
Wave Speed= Frequency X Wavelength
