It's cheap, but only has a resolution up to 1 micron, it has a low focal range

1)grinding; 2)polishing (to remove scratches); 3) Etching (to show micro-structure

How can you find the grain size of a material using a micro-graph?

grain size = length of line/ number of intercepts

What are the two types of electron microscopes and which one gives a higher resolution?

Two types: Scanning and Transmission. Transmission electron microscopy can give micro-graphs in higher resolution as one can be able to see atomic arrangement of a material

Give an advantage and disadvantages(if any) of Electron microscopes

They have a greater resolution than optical microscope--> can see things up to 1nm and they,micro-graphs, have a better contrast. Don't need to 'prepare' the material for electron microscopy as you do for optical as it doesn't have a low focal range.

A series of mechanical/chemical operations to change/preserve (optimise) properties of a material
