Between high and low tide, rocks are hurled at the base of the cliff. This has an effect like sandpaper, ripping away at the cliff face. Over time, this causes undercutting of the cliff and can create a WAVE CUT NOTCH.

HYDRAULIC POWER
Water enters cracks within rocks and compresses the air within. This compression causes the crack to widen, weakening the rock over time.

ATTRITION
Rocks that have been eroded from the cliff get carried away by the sea. These rocks bash against each other as the sea crashes around. Over time, this creates pebbles which are now smaller and rounder.
