FITT Principle
Rules applied to the methods of training in order to achieve the specific adaptions required to improve performance

Individual Needs
Must consider their individual needs. How old are they? Why do they want to train? The answers will help you to tailor the training programme to the individual needs and abilities

Specificity
Specific types of activity to improve specific parts of the body in specific ways. E.g. No point in weightlifters going swimming

Overload
Fitness can be improved by training more than you normally do

Reversibility
Most of the adaptions from training are reversible. Fitness will be lost if the training is reduced

Variance
When planing a training programme it is important to vary the training a bit to prevent performers becoming bored

Overtraining
Sufficient recovery time is not allowed between training sessions. Result in injury/regression

Recovery
Without proper rest and recovery performers can become too tired to train effectively and become stressed and irritable. Lead to an injury
