What is Prejudice?
Judging someone before you know them.

Treating someone differently because of their appearance.

What is Positive Discrimination?
Giving a group special privileges to compensate for a perceived disadvantage.

Gender, Ethnicity, Age, Religion, Sexuality, Race and Disability.

What is prejudice based on?
Mainly ignorance to others. Stereotyping due to differences is often as a result of a bad upbringing. It could also be due to the media planting a certain influence over stereotypes.

What is Scapegoating?
A person or group can be blamed for the sin or wrongs of another individual/group.

Why Prejudice is difficult to be proven
It is difficult to police prejudice because it involves opinion, which may not always show itself in ways that are 'against the law'. When opinion is put into action, however, and people are treated unequally, prejudice becomes discrimination.

Buddhist Teachings #1
Buddhists teach that prejudice is an example of ignorance.

Buddhist Teachings #2
Equanimity, upekkha. This means an equal attitude towards everyone. Buddhists try to ensure that everyone is treated as such in society.

'Buddha Nature', ie the ability to become enlightened. It does not matter about our culture, race or background. Once enlightenment has been reached, there are no divisions at all.

"I undertake to refrain from false speech.", they believe that it is important not to use negative speech as they believe in karma and prejudice/discrimination is considered poor behaviour.
