Predation

?
What is a predator?
An organism that feeds on another organism.
1 of 9
What happens when predators eat their prey?
Increased competition between predators for prey that is left
2 of 9
What does increased competition between predators result in?
A reduction in the pop of predators as some are unable to obtain enough prey for their survival
3 of 9
What does fewer predators mean?
Fewer prey are eaten and so the prey population increases - therefore the predator population increases as there is more food.
4 of 9
Why are fluctuations in population size in a graph less severe?
Organisms eat a variety of foods (not just prey)
5 of 9
What are other reasons other than predation for fluctuation in population size in graphs?
Disease and climate
6 of 9
What do population crashes cause?
Selection pressure (individuals who avoid predators and withstand disease/harsh climate survive and become adapted)
7 of 9
What are other reasons other than predation for fluctuation in population size in graphs?

8 of 9
