What is health?
Health is a state of complete physical, mental & social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

What is health psychology?
Study of health, illness and healthcare to: promote and maintain health, improve healthcare policies, prevent and treat illnesses, find out causes of illness and risk factors.

What is distal?
Something further away from us; socio-economical status, age, gender, personality, ethnicity, culture and etc

What is proximal?
Closer to us; motives, belief, attitude and perception.

What are the personality tests?
3 factors, big five and locus of control.

What are the elements of 3 factors?
Extroversion, neuroticism and psychoticism

What are the elements of big five?
Extroversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientious and openness.

What are the elements of locus of control?
Internal orientation (my actions have an effect on outcomes), external orientation (luck/chance have effect on outcomes) and powerful others (actions of professionals have effect on outcomes).

What is attitude?
Orientation to objects/people/events and evaluation of them. Has three components; behavioural, cognitive and emotional.

What are the three elements of attitude?
Cognitive (belief), emotional (feelings), behavioural (intended action).

What is risk perception? what are the factors?
It is how we perceive the risk of our illness; unawareness (consider themselves to be at no risk), comparing with other people, defensive towards info, lack of understanding and info.

What is unrealistic optimism? what are the factors?
Engaging in social comparison that reflect best on them. Factors: lack of experience, believe that action can prevent problem (illusion of control), belief that if it has not happened yet it won't in the future, belief that it's uncommon.

What is self efficacy?
Confidence - Belief in one's ability to organise and execute actions required to manage the situation - positive outcome expectancy and reduced anxiety - important predictor.
