Define a sectional group?
A Pressure Group that represents a section of society. Only interested in the interests of that group and have narrow roles. For example: National Union of Students - tuition fees would have benefitted all (parents wider society etc)

Define a Promotional Group
Groups that are concerned with a cause or issue. Open to all members of community and they believe their cause will benefit everybody. For example: ASH (association for smoking and health) focuses on smoking issues-smoking ban in July 2007 benefit al

Define Functional Representation?
The idea that various groups of society have particular functions - particularly occupational, social, economic and producer groups.

Define Pluralism?
A society or political system which suggests that there are many groups, beliefs, cultures and lifestyles that flourish together and are tolerated.

Define elitism?
A society/political system which suggests that power resides in the hands of a small number of people, known as 'elites'.

Summarise methods used by pressure groups?
Lobby ministers, sitting on committees, Organising mass demonstrations, media campaigns, civil disobedience, internet campaigns, e-petitions.

What does success mean in terms of pressure groups.
Achieves the passage of a particular piece of legislation (Ghurkas), Prevents unfriendly legislation (Prevented Uk from Working Time Directive), stops actions from taking place (Turbine Watch 321), Profile of issue is raised (Occupy movement)

Define Pluralist Democracy
A political system where many groups are tolerated, allowed to flourish and able to influence decision making.
