People give up a degree of the freedom in exchange for protection from the state. (If everyone pursued own freedom/was self serving life would be 'Nasty, brutish, and short'- Hobbes)

Limited intervention as possible in everything. Can be economic or social.

In a diverse society, complete respect for all different cultures and values. Defending everyone's rights even if you do not agree with their behaviour- Farron not voting on gay marriage.
12 of 14
Capitalism
All liberals support it, but prog think that there has to be restrictions on it to stop people from being abused under the system/ should be some state intervention. 2017 manifesto supported nationalisation of Southern Rail/ Thameslink.

Cradle to grave welfare under Beveridge. State should provide health, benefits, school, to protect against poverty. 2017- 30 hours free childcare a week for 2-4 year olds.
