Define freedom and rights
Civil rights are the rights and freedoms that exist for citizens in their relationship to the state and its laws.

Name freedoms and restrictions on the sate
Freedoms: right to vote, right to form a political party, right to form associations, freedom of movement, right to express opinions. Restrictions: right to not be imprisoned without a fair trail, right to a fair trial, right to privacy.

Define tolerance
The willingness to extend basic constitutional rights and civil liberties to persons or groups whose view point differs from ones own.

Define law and order
Refers to the demand for strict criminal justice system, in relation to crime and violence.

Define equal rights
In western democracies all citizens are entitled to equal rights

Define equality of opportunity
Recognised that citizens should start life with the same opportunities. This means that society should find ways to reduce the advantages and disadvantages that different people have at the time of their birth.

Define natural justice
Term for the rule against bias and the right to a fair hearing.

Define legal justice
Makes sure all citizens of the state are treated equally under the law and nobody can be considered above the law. It also means that the gov must abide by the laws and that every citizen has an equal right to a fair trial.

Define social justice
Refers to the way in which goods are distributed within a society. Goods mean anything people desire. But theres natural inequality within mankind so its normal to expect that goods will be distributed unevenly.

Define communism
An expression of total quality and no one should have significantly more than others.

Define fundamental socialism
Also proposes economic equality. However they accept that society requires some incentives to ensure that theres people who are willing to undertake education and training (and get higher reward).

Define liberals
They place freedom above justice, therefore a society must be one where individuals enjoy extensive liberty and are 'free to be unequal'.

Define libertarians
They believe in society markets should be completely free with no state interference. They say that if we are all free and have equal chances, the rewards received are due to us according our own efforts.
