Both him and his partner are now trying to find him again. 1 of 9 Beginning: 'First phase' They have been through many stages in their relationship and are now reminiscing. 2 of 9 Beginning: 'porcelain collar-bone' Suggests how delicate this man is, physically and emotionally. 3 of 9 Middle: 'Parachute silk of his punctured lung' Contrasting imagery between soft silk and brutal punctured lung 4 of 9 Middle: 'grazed heart' Finally reached his heart after breaking his ribs. However, it's only grazed so will heal quickly. 5 of 9 Middle: 'foetus of metal' Describes the bullet associating to new life, it is a new injury, a new set of pain. 6 of 9 End: 'unexploded mine buried deep in his mind' His mind is the problem, the psychological injury. He is unwilling to open up. 7 of 9 End: 'only then, did I come close' 'Close'= near, she was unsuccessful at helping him to open up. 8 of 9 Structure Repetition of 'only then' shows its a gradual process and nothing is rushed. 9 of 9
